Our Company

ABA is easy to do business with.

Founded in 1999, ABA became a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerald Group Australia (Emerald) on 30 March 2012.

ABA operates grain storage facilities located across southern New South Wales and Victoria along with the export terminal at the Port of Melbourne in Victoria.

ABA provides grain storage and handling services to Growers and Clients (grain marketers) commencing from harvest, through the supply chain, concluding in either domestic usage or export.

The Melbourne Port Terminal facility was officially opened on 31st August 2000. This purpose built facility allows storage of 48,000 tonnes and vessel loading via a single, mobile ship loader with extendable cascade chute. The terminal also offers ability to pack containers direct onto road transport for movement to Melbourne's nearby container terminal.

Our Network of country sites consists of both ABA owned facilities and affiliated facilities. All sites operate on ABA enabled business processes, supported by a new Information System, certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 and with staff dedicated to providing a flexible and friendly service.

About Emerald
Emerald is an Australian business founded in 2004. Originally fully owned by the directors and staff of the company, in March 2010 it became a 50:50 joint venture between Emerald Agribusiness Group and Sumitomo Corporation.

Emerald is one of Australia's leading independent grain marketing companies, known to be the fifth largest grain exporter from Australia (by volume). The alliance with Sumitomo has provided Emerald with unrivalled access to a range of grain processors throughout the world, particularly into rapidly growing markets in East and South Asia.

Emerald's unique business model includes commercial joint venture partnerships with grower organisations that assist these groups to directly influence both grower marketing options and grower incomes. These JVs include SQP Grain with Southern Quality Produce Co-operative in Victoria, EP Grain with FREE Eyre on Eyre Peninsula in South Australia and Southern Ag Grain with Southern Ag Venture in southern New South Wales. Emerald operates in its own name in Western Australia and also has a strong alliance with WAFarmers, while in Queensland it operates as Philp Brodie Grains and in eastern South Australia as Sturt Grain.

In 2012 Emerald moved to create an integrated supply chain through the acquisition of the ABA network and leasing of trains to operate in New South Wales and Victoria.

Emerald is now able to offer services across the entire grain supply chain - origination, storage, logistics, shipping, port access and marketing. The key benefit lies in linking trains to the ABA network in Victoria and southern New South Wales with the Melbourne port, to fulfil the vision of a more efficient, competitive and economical supply chain for our grower, trade and processor customers in Australia and around the world.
